ALBUM REVIEW
Artist: 50 Cent Album: Get Rich Or Die Tryin' Exec. Producer: Dr. Dre & Eminem Label: Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Release Date: February 6, 2003
Well this ain't 50's first release but for most people out there it will be. So let's forget the 50 we used to know & focus on the 50 we know now. Right now he's the hottest $#!t in hip-hop, blowing up the airwaves & the charts. He's managed to freak it on some tracks but can the man freak an entire album.
If he can't it won't be because the production wasn't tight. Prodcers on the album include Dr. Dre [who did several tracks], Eminem, Rockwilder & others. As expected all the Dre tracks are hot & overall production is on point. Aftermath is definitely handling theirs.
Lyrically 50 isn't the greatest or most insightful MC, but his flow & delivery more than make up for his lack of lyrical skill. Most of the album centers around the man 50 Cent & his feelings toward things. Rest assured most of those feelings include gun toting & cap peeling. He also takes shots at those individuals he has beef with like Ja Rule on ''Back Down''. And what's a hip-hop album without a track informing us of how the artist can handle the women like ''P.I.M.P. or ''21 Questions'' w/ Nate Dogg which reads as a list of what your woman should be willing to do for you.
All that said the album is pretty good with every track being a club banger & thats it's greatest appeal. Simply put, its a CD you can bang in the whip or bob your head to on that subway/bus/plane ride. And sometimes that's all we need. His greatest test will come with his next release as we wait to see if he can improve upon what he's started & grow as an artist. SonicAmp Rating: 8/10 |
