Now those who know me know that I'm a Jay-Z fan, but more than that i'm a fan of hip-hop. So when Nas dropped that Stillmatic joint, I copped it, & like everyone else, wuz banging it in the ride along with Jay-Z's Blueprint. Now I was never the biggest Nas fan. When the Illmatic dropped i thought it was a good album, just a little too short. I never heaped praise upon it like everyone else seemed to be doing at the time. Then came It was Written which was pretty good followed by I Am... which only had 2 or 3 solid tracks on the entire album. Nastradamus, the album prior to Stillmatic, saw Nas abandoning his Escobar persona & returning to his Nasty Nas roots & another solid album. In between he's been involved in a couple of group projects like The Firm & QB's Finest albums, both of which were B+ efforts, also his Lost Tapes album which was cool. Now we come to his latest release God's Son.

The title alone gives the album a lot to live up to. After Listening to the album I felt let down. I was expecting some more Nasty Nas $#!t, but instead got some new type of Laid-Back/Reflective/Spiritual Nas. I then had to readjust my thinking & listen to the album again. After doing so i kind of figured out what he was doing on this one. If Stillmatic was war then this album is definetly peace. Songs like ''Dance'' which reflects on his mother & ''Heaven'' & ''Thugz Mansion'' which deal with the spiritual

Producers include Eminem, Ron Browz, Salaam Remi, The Alchemest & Alicia Keys. Although I wasn't feeling all of the tracks most of the album is pretty tight production wise with only a slight lull in the middle [I could do without ever hearing from the Bravehearts again].

Lyrically Nas is still on point & usually has something to say in his rhymes. His flow is tight & he also tries some new things on this album that reminds me of Jay-Z [not that he pioneered anything]. Guest appearances include the aforementioned Barvehearts, Kelis, Claudette Ortiz, 2Pac, Lake, J Phoenix, Jully Black & Alicia Keys.

Overall, not a bad album. If you're expecting an album like his last & are on a strict budget, you might wanna try it before you buy it. Otherwise go get a copy, most people should enjoy enough songs on the album to justify the purchase.
