ALBUM REVIEW

Artist: K-Os
Album: Atlantis: Hymns For Disco
Exec. Producer: K-Os
Label: Virgin
Release Date: February 20, 2007

Atlantis: Hymns For Disco is the third album from the Toronto based artist K-Os. Though his last album Joyful Rebellion reached platinum status, there are still those out there who have no idea who this cat is. If you're one of those people who think HipHop is dying a slow death than you really need to check this album out.

Production on this album is exceptional to the point where it cannot be compared to anything out today. Musical influences run the gamut, Reggae, Pop, Rock, Jazz Soul; No genre is off limits. Songs like ''Equalizer'' & ''Born To Run'' start off like straight Rock songs, the latter with electric guitar. But get past the intro & that bass line kicks in w/ a mix of Reggae vibes on top of that & these tracks shine. Every track on this album is different than the other but iyt doesn't make the album sound disjointed at all. Just the opposite, the different styles of the songs blend together seemlessly.

Vocally K-Os does both rhymes & sings on over these well produced tracks. Lyrically his songs are filled with insight & delve into his personal frame of mind, as well as love. He also has an Old School flow that is actually refreshing in today's music scene. When he does break out in song he does a good job of staying in his range & somet may find that he sings a lot better than he rhymes.

Overall this is one of the best albums I have heard in a long @$$ time. It is one of my picks for album of the year. If you consider yourself a music lover than you should pick this joint up. If you're not then you probably didn't make it this far.
