ALBUM REVIEW

Artist: Various Artists
Album: Eminem Presents The Re-Up
Exec. Producer: Eminem
Label: Shady Records
Release Date: December 5, 2006

The Re-Up album began as a mixtape project to promote the newest members of the Shady label Cashis, Bobby Creekwater & Stat Quo [who falls under both Shady & Aftermath]. However, the story goes that the tracks were so good that they decided to go ahead and add some more tracks so they could release it as a full blown LP.

Prodction duty on the album is handled by Eminem himself along with The Alchemist who hooked up w/ the Shady crew as their DJ on the Anger Management Tour 3. Production is adequate & Dre's influence can be heard in some of Em's production which helps alot. Most of the tracks just kind of blend together with few standing out.

The MC's on the other hand differ very greatly in lyrical content & delivery. Out of the new Shady members, Stat Quo clearly stands out as the one with the most promise. But to be fair he does have 3 solo tracks as well as apperances on several others. Production on his tracks also seems a little tighter. The other two cats weren't bad, but they really didn't bring anything new or stand out much. Eminem still proves to be gifted lyrically and appears to be on top of his game when spitting his verses. The same can't be said for all the artists on this album though, I'm talking bout you 50. The artist list is pretty much everyone from the Shady label with a couple of G-Unit members thrown in the mix. Stand out tracks include ''We're Back'' with Em, Obie, Stat, Bobby & Cashis along with every solo track by Stat Quo.

Overall this album should have probably remained as a mixtape. It suffers the same fate as most compilations, a few stand out tracks and a lot of filler. If you're an Eminem fan then you'll probably enjoy the album for the several Em tracks on it. If your checking for Stat Quo then you should probably pick it up as well. Otherwise you definitely want to try before you buy.
