ALBUM REVIEW
Artist: John Legend Album: Once Again Exec. Producer: John Legend & Kanye West Label: Sony Release Date: October 24, 2006
&John legend found success with his album Get Lifted, winning 3 grammies. With Once Again Legend looks to build upon that success. While not as good as Get Lifted this album is better than any other R&B album out right now.
Production on this album is exceptional. The live instrumentaion gives this album a classic feel reminiscent of the days when Marvin Gaye & Stevie Wonder were at the top of the charts. Producers responsible for this wonderful sound include Kanye West, Will.I.Am & Raphael Saadiq to name a few. Credit also goes to John Legend who, himself a gifted pianist, showcases his prowess on almost every track.
As far as what this album is about, it's all about love. All the basics are covered. Finding new love [sometimes more than one], breakups & lost love. Lyrically the songs are well written & vocally Legend does a good job on delivery. Stand out tracks include ''Save Room'', ''Another Again'' ''Where Did My Baby Go''
Overall the album is pretty good. My only problem is that some of the uptempo tracks fall a little short of those on his first album, but they didn't take away from the album. This is one of those albums you can listen to all the way through without skipping a single track. That's pretty rare in today's world, and a damn shame. Anyone who likes music should check this one out, especially if you don't like any of the stuff that passes for R&B nowadays. SonicAmp Rating: 9/10 |
