ALBUM REVIEW
Artist: Ludacris Album: Release Therapy Exec. Producer: Jeff Dixon Label: Def Jam Release Date: September 26, 2006
After 6 years and 5 albums it looks like Luda has actually grown up a bit. Mostly known for his humorous songs and videos Luda's approach on Release Therapy is a lot more introspective. He says it best in this line off the track ''Freedom Of Preach'', ''Either I'm smarter cause of my daughter or I'm just too dense / I'm 28 years old & just now started making sense''. With that this just may be the best Luda album to date.
Production on this album is what we've come to expect from a Ludacris album. Heavy base lines, & catchy hooks are everywhere, with the occassional slow tempo track here & there. Producers include the Neptunes, R. Kelly & Polow.
Some fans may disagree or be dissapointed but lyrically this may be Luda's best album. The comical metaphors of the previous album are few giving way to verses with meaning. There are the obligatory tracks, on money & women but there are also tracks about physical abuse & pitfalls of the business. The Best track on the album is the dis track ''War With God''. The flow is complimented by the slow tempo beat & the haunting chorus. Guest appearances include Young Jeezy, Field Mob, Bobby Valentino, R. Kelly, Beanie Sigel, Pimp C, C-Murder & Mary J Blige.
Overall the album is a quality release and is now my favorite Ludacris joint. Some fans of Ludacris may be disapointed with it but he will probably win over a lot of new fans. If you never really checked for Luda in the past but like artists like Jay-Z or Snoop than you should give this album a try. SonicAmp Rating: 8/10 |
