ALBUM REVIEW

Artist: Ghostface Killah
Album: The Pretty Toney Album
Exec. Producer: Tina Davis & Kevin Liles
Label: Def Jam
Release Date: April 20, 2004

First things first, let's check the resume:
1996 Iron Man
2000 Supreme Clientele
2001 Bulletproof Wallets
2003 Shaolin's Finest [Best Of]
Not to mention every Wu-Tang Album & numerous guest appearances on other Wu members solo joints.

Now what does that have to do with Ghostface's latest release The Pretty Toney Album. Not much by itself, but when positioned against his body of work it proves that he has emerged from the Wu-tang Clan as the most consistent of the bunch. By putting out quality album after quality album he has passed the likes of Method Man & Raekwon as the premiere Wu-Tang member. That being said, he will probably never see as much fame. You probably won't see him out there selling soda or in deodorant commercials. And most casual Hip Hop heads still consider Meth the best Wu-Tang member but those who ''Are about the real'' know the deal.

The Pretty Toney Album is Ghost's 1st release on his new label, Def Jam, and plays out as classic Ghost. From the obscure samples used on the tracks to his his lyrical flow & delivery, there is no mistaking him for any other MC. What also makes this album so refreshing is the lack of rhymes about whips & ice. But there is still plenty of sex, a prerequisite for any Ghost album. Ghost also has a talent for delivering verses about love in such a way that the coldest dude wouldn't have a problem repeating.

Production is decent with most of the tracks consisting of some serious old school samples. The tracks seem to pull from every era of hip hop with its sound & while some may raise an eyebrow at some of the samples used, Ghost manages to make it work. He rhymes over samples that most MC couldn't even think about rhyming over. Producers include RZA, True Master, K-Def & D Trotman and guest appearances include Sheek, Styles, Missy, Jackie-O, Jadakiss, Musiq & K Fox [What?! No Raekwon, No Method Man].

Overall its another quality album for Ghost's resume. Stand out tracks include ''Tush'' w/ Missy, ''Be This Way'' & ''It's Over''. If you liked his past albums you can't go wrong by getting this but if you didn't like any of his previous joints, just skip it. For those who don't know, if you like Freeway or Sheek then you might want to check this joint out, otherwise just stick to your vanilla. Me, I'm a be rollin down the BQE with my windows down, sunroof open & volume on blast, banging the hell out this $#!t ... Holla.
