Will You Be Entertained? review - Common - "Universal Mind Control" - 6/10 Added 14 December, 2008 Typically known for smooth flows and conscious lyrics over jazzy tunes, Common takes a risky approach in his eighth album Universal Mind Control. Common says of this album he wanted to try something new, a club album. UMC has a little bit of everything from 80's/techno driven tracks to hardcore rhymes to beats often heard in the club. But does it fall short of its quality?

Heartbreak A Hit For West review - Kanye West - "808's & Heartbreak" - 8/10 Added 8 December, 2008Kanye West has succeeded again with his fourth album 808's & Heartbreak. Recorded in just three weeks, West did not miss a beat-literally. Words such as dark and controversial maybe used to describe this album READ MORE |
Another Wu-Banger review - Wu-Tang - "Soundtracks From The Shaolin Temple" - 10/10 Added 16 November, 2008For a long time I've been patiently waiting for a new Wu-Tang release so much so that it felt like I was waiting for the writers strike to end. I almost didn't get a chance to review this album, for some ungodly reason but thank god I ran into my boy and he was able to flip me a copy so I could cop a listen. I think also it was due to my fervor and my adoration for such a group like the Clan he decided to let me cop the review. After all they are one of my biggest influences especially some of the things they say that pertain to the 5%'s. READ MORE |
Clean Your Ears review - Q-Tip - "The Renaissance" - 10/10 Added 9 November, 2008The front man-producer for influential hip-hop quartet A Tribe Called Quest and one of the genre's dopest MCs, Q-Tip has kept to himself since 1999, when his last album, "Amplified," hit No. 4 on the national hip-hop/R&B chart. Outside of a scant few guest verses on other performers' songs (including the Chemical Brothers' European smash hit "Galvanize," for which Q-Tip won a Grammy) and dribs of production work for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Mobb Deep, he's remained virtually silent. Whereas real Hip-hop aficionados like myself and others, never forgot him.

Not So Funhouse review - Pink - "Funhouse" - 4/10 Added 2 November, 2008After a separation with Carey Hart (one of my Favorite FMX Riders). Pink has licked her wounds and is able to conjure a 5th album to add to her already sterling repertoire. This album is chock full of upbeat, rock infused, ballads and the single "So What". But then again this is Pink one of the many radio-friendly pop queens whose songwriting skills are genuine especially if you have EG Walker, Billy Mann, and Butch Walker wiping you down in your corner.

Other Side Of The Game Indeed review - Big Shug - "Other Side Of The Game" - 9/10 Added 26 October, 2008This time around I managed to get my grimey paws on a sick album by the one and only Big Shug. He's like a combination of Guru and Twin Gambino. I wouldn't be surprised if he was confused with the two MCs I mentioned. READ MORE |
Evolved review - John Legend - "Evolver" - 10/10 Added 19 October, 2008John Legend's 3rd Album "Evolver" truly lives up to it's namesake with different sounds, and a slew of dope artists ranging from Kanye West, to Estelle. Not to mention an appearance by the one and only Ms. Brandy Norwood. I've been anticipating this for a long time Once Again was killer but after the initial listening of this album I was pumped to review it. So I'ma make like Ray Lewis and tackle this album for ya'll. Still Cooking review - Grits - "Reiterate" - 9/10 Added 13 October, 2008GRITS is a sick duo out of Tennessee that used to dance for DC Talk back in the day. This right here is their 8th album to date, and Teron "Bonafide" Carter, and Stacy "Coffee" Jones have failed to disappoint. They've managed to establish some type of longevity, and have been able to become the highest-grossing rap group in faith-fueled hip-hop. READ MORE |
Have No Fear review - Jazmine Sullivan - "Fearless" - 10/10 Added 2 October, 2008Initially I was skeptical of the quality that this album was going to have. I've always had a negative disposition towards R&B music mainly because of what I've heard on top 40 radio but the way my boy handed me his mini USB drive there was a certain gleam in his eyes. I mean you should've seen it. It was like the first time I heard the Beatles. READ MORE |
Business As Usual review - T.I. - "Paper Trail" - 9/10 Added 24 September, 2008One of the most heavily anticipated albums to hit shelves to mark the end of the summer. Clifford Harris is able to deliver one of his most potent works to date. The title of the album is a direct reference to his return to penning his rhymes – something he hasn't done since his debut I'm Serious.
